Terms of Service
These Terms are provided in Japanese and English. If the two versions differ, the Japanese version prevails.
These Terms apply to browsing this site, "The Future of Humans, AI, and the Web," to registering as a member, and to purchasing paid content. The clauses on paid plans take effect once paid sales begin.
Operator
This site is run by matsumotory as an individual. His real name is Ryosuke Matsumoto.
matsumotory runs this site as a personal business, in his own time and with his own resources. It is not the business of his employer or his personal company, and it does not use their facilities, information, or working hours. What the articles cover is limited to technical knowledge generalized independently of any affiliation or position; the boundary with his employer's research themes and the handling of employee inventions are drawn by agreement with his employer.
Accounts
You sign in with a link sent to your email, or with a Google or GitHub account; there is no password. Records of subscriptions and purchases are tied to the email address you sign in with. An account may be used only by the person it belongs to. The right to read purchased paid content belongs to the purchaser, and accounts may not be shared.
Content rights and license
The freely available parts, that is, the full text of free articles and the free preview of paid articles, are provided under the CC BY 4.0 license. You may quote and reuse them if you give attribution. Example code in articles is under the MIT license.
The body of paid parts is protected by ordinary copyright and is limited to the purchaser's own reading and private use. Reprinting, redistributing, or sharing the full text of paid parts in public is not permitted. Quotation within the scope allowed by copyright law is permitted.
Paid plans and cancellation
The price, the billing cycle, and the point at which billing starts are shown on the screen before purchase and in the Legal Notice under the Specified Commercial Transactions Act. You can cancel a subscription at any time from the customer portal opened from the account page. After you cancel, you can keep reading until the end of the period you have paid for, and access ends when that period ends. This cancellation effective at the end of the period is how a subscription is cancelled.
Refunds
There is no refund program. Because of the nature of digital content, single-article purchases are not refunded after purchase. For subscriptions as well, cancellation takes effect at the end of the period, and there is no refund of the unused portion. If there is a billing error such as a double charge, we will look into it and respond. The conditions for refunds and cancellation are also written in the Legal Notice under the Specified Commercial Transactions Act and on the How your data is handled page.
Regions where sales are offered
Paid plans and single purchases are offered in Japan and in some other countries and regions. Because of the way consumption tax is administered, we currently do not sell to the following countries and regions, which require registration for local tax from the first sale: the member states of the European Union, the United Kingdom, South Korea, India, Turkey, Russia, the Philippines, Chile, Mexico, Colombia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam. If a purchase is completed with a card issued in a region outside the covered areas, we will cancel the purchase and refund the full amount, cancel the subscription along with it, and let you know the reason by email. This cancellation refund takes precedence over the terms of the Refunds section. All charges are made in Japanese yen, and the rate of conversion to another currency and any foreign-use fee follow your card company's terms. The regions where sales are offered may change in line with our handling of tax regimes, and when they change we will announce it on this page.
Prohibited acts
Unauthorized access, redistribution of the body of paid parts, acts that interfere with the operation of this site, and acts that violate laws and regulations are prohibited.
Comments
Members on a subscription plan can write comments on articles. Comments can be read only by members on the same subscription plan. The following are prohibited in comments: posts that slander or defame others, posts that incite discrimination or violence, posts that infringe others' copyright, likeness, or privacy, posts intended as advertising or solicitation, posts that violate laws and regulations, and posts that interfere with the operation of this site.
The operator reads posted comments to check whether they are fit to publish, and hides or deletes without prior notice any comment judged to fall under the prohibitions above. By posting a comment, a member agrees that the operator handles the content of the comment for this checking and deletion. If you find a comment that infringes someone's rights, please let us know through the contact form. The operator will check the content and take action such as deletion to the extent necessary. Where required by law, we may retain information identifying the person who posted, and disclose it to the person whose rights were infringed or to investigative authorities.
Interruption of service
This site is built on external services such as content delivery, a database, payments, email sending, and generative AI. Because of their failures or maintenance, all or part of this site, including the dialogue and search features, may be temporarily unavailable. The operator does not guarantee any uptime figure; when an interruption occurs, the operator works to restore service and reports the situation in the site's notices. No refund is made on the grounds of a temporary interruption. Compensation for damage a reader suffers due to an interruption follows the terms of the Disclaimer section.
Disclaimer
Article content is verified at the time of writing, but its accuracy and completeness are not guaranteed. If a reader suffers damage in relation to the use of this site, where it is due to the operator's willful misconduct or gross negligence, the operator will compensate the full amount of that damage. Otherwise, the operator bears liability for compensation within the scope of damage that would ordinarily arise, up to a limit of the total amount received from that reader in the most recent 12 months. This provision does not apply to the extent it is not permitted under the Consumer Contract Act or other mandatory law. Each article is a single piece written from matsumotory's viewpoint. Its making is shared by a human and an AI. Not disclosing, per article, which parts a human wrote and which an AI wrote is a design that is disclosed on the About page.
Changes to these Terms
These Terms may be changed. When they change, we announce it on this page, and important changes are announced in advance. If you use this site after a change, you are deemed to have agreed to the changed Terms.
Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the law of Japan. For disputes concerning this site, the court that has jurisdiction over the operator's place of residence shall be the exclusive court of first instance by agreement.
Enacted on 2026-07-07; last revised on 2026-07-20. When the content is revised, we update the text on this page and announce it.
